Home sweet home
In a few days I’ll go to a visit to my parents. I haven’t seen them in a weeks. There will be a lot to talk, a lot to discuss, and as usual, a lot to eat. You see, my parents believe that nowhere in a world food can be healthy and tasty then the one at home. I must say, both of them are very skilled in a kitchen, and always take care of how fresh vegetables they use, directly from a bazar market.
Whenever I’m there, I have to “make a list” of the meals I want to eat next few days. As if I’m in a hotel. It’s funny in a way, they are all like “you are our daughter, not a guest”, but whenever I want to help them in a kitchen, they’re all like “you’re a guest, you have to relax”. So, am I a guest or what? Or, is it actually possible that they are afraid of my cooking? I know that I’m not some high-ranked chef, not even close, but still, I can make a several really delicious meals. That is not enough for a restaurant menu, but I’m sure it is enough for a list of a weekend meals.
I don’t know, perhaps when I become mother I’ll understand. Perhaps it’s just that they’re too protective over me and my sister, perhaps they’re just afraid that I’ll cut my finger, or just burn them a little… But it’s like, oh my God, I’m an adult now, if I can’t cook, then how will I live? Should I find a chef for a husband?
Food behind the bars
I don’t know how exactly I came to this thought at all, to be honest, but, oh well… Since food is our main theme, I guess I could also mention few words about a food served in a prisons. In a way, I find it to be a grim topic, but still, I can not avoid something just because of my subjective feeling.
In many prisons, food is prepared by a chef, and sometimes it’s some of the prisoners who has an experience working as a chef while living outside the walls. In some others, food is delivered by some catering company. In the prisons where food is prepared in a prison kitchen, sometimes it happens that the director of the institution organized working in a field, so that prisoners can eat healthy, natural food, they made themselves. It is considered to be a very good for their moral and for getting a better picture of themselves by doing something very useful and in the same time, seeing the positive result of their work. Typical menus are designed to be low-sugar, low-salt, and to contain a moderate amount of calories. Considering the fact that they don’t have a lot of places to for a walk, this is for understanding.
Even though in some prisons there are desserts, chocolate bars or a pie, it is for understanding that a prison food is far from delicious. Of course, when someone make a mistake, he should not expect to be treated like a child. However, I must notice, no matter how good food there can be served, knowledge that you’re locked there for years and more, would take that taste away…
Food is in the air
Airplanes. So fast. So useful. There is no faster way to travel. The distance car or a bus would pass can’t compare with the distance plane would pass for the same time. So, no matter if you run to a wedding of your cousin, or to a meeting with a company that’s offering a partnership or whatever else, airplane is always the best solution. Also, sometimes is a lot cheaper to travel by a plane then by a bus.
There is bad side of a traveling by a plane. You don’t have a lot of choice when it comes down to a dinner options. Of course, business and first class has a lot more options then the economic class, but even that is not so much. I mean, I don’t make a mess about it, because I understand that in the most of the planes there is no kitchen, at least not some that can come even close to some restaurant that we have down on earth, and also, when travel takes only a several hours, I really don’t think that lack of some specialities can be to tragic. Some people disagrees with me. They expect a lot of delicious meals in a plane restaurant menu, that is almost ridiculous. I mean, really, have you ever seen the chef in a plane? With his well-known hat? Passing through a corridor? I don’t think so. And what? Are stewardesses expected to cook while taking care of the passagers? They are not babysitters, I’m afraid…
If you are one of the people who can stand lack of culinary magic, then you better travel by a boat, for they can cross the ocean, and also, food on them is always great. But, if you don’t have a time to spend travelling on the water, than you better take something from home to have while you are in a plane.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s
I must say, whenever I think about restaurants, I mostly think about lunch and dinner. Then I remembered this movie, later and a song and started to pay attention on a breakfast meals in a restaurant menu.
Breakfast is usually based on this options: pancakes, eggs, bacon, pie, frech toast, muesli… It’s our first meal for the day and it has to offer a lot of calories, but a healthy ones, because our strenght is always built on it. It is always recommended to drink a milk or a jogurt, tea, or perhaps a refreshing orange juice. I must say, I’ve never visited a restaurant during a breakfast time(unless of course, if I’m in a hotel, so it’s for expectation), probably because I’m too lazy to get up, get ready, and live the house not long after I wake up.
Anyway, if you don’t like having breakfast when you open your eyes, but a long after, it is a good choice to have a meal between a breakfast and a lunch time.
Dish washer
You know that moment when you’re tired, you family has just finished dinner and there is a lot of dishes on a table you have to wash. That’s the moment you say:”Thank you, God, and thank You, the inventor of dishwasher machines!”
But, I have to say that it’s a rare occasion when you have so much dishes that you require a dishwasher. Only when is some celebration or a party. Also, I know that most of the ladies would say:”Why do we always have to be stucked with the dishes while our husbands watches a TV?” Now, let me tell you something. Some of the restaurants do use a dishwasher machines, but in the most of them we still have those guys, dish washers, who have to deal with all the dishes customers and chefs use. Can you imagine that? Eight hours standing and washing, and washing… as it never ends. That job is considered for a job that is too heavy for a girls. Well, for sure, some of the dishes in a restaurants are very heavy.
So, whenever you start getting mad about a few plates and cups, please, do remember this I’ve just wrote up. And relax.
Restaurant parody
One of the most popular genre in movies, books, songs…is parody. It’s probably because whatever is created there are people who dislike it so they for sure do enjoy to see that something in a different light. Also, those who liked it, for sure want to see something that will remind them on something they have noticed as an imperfection. For, we do agree, nothing is perfect.
All those tv shows, “Top Chef”, “Restaurant impossible”, “Hell kitchen”… I’ve already mentioned them in one of the previous posts. I’m sometimes not sure are those things serious, or are they just a parody in a way? I mean, all those shows where you can see some new, tasty and interesting recipe are always welcome, but those where you just talk other people how their service is pathetic and telling the others how they’re “not giving all of them” while making a meal, that it’s sad… I mean, people, I like, no, I love good food, but I don’t see how can anyone enjoy the meal if before that someone had to use a bunch of hard words on a chef. Why all the expert chefs have to be so above the others around them? I think that what we need is a parody on such shows. For example, take that masters of cooking in front of the chef amateurs. Let them be criticizied, and I wonder how would they like it. For, it’s the fact, we all have our own taste.
Seriously, why did the hearts of people went cold? Why is it so necessary to have so much tears on a tv? Aren’t smiles a lot more beautiful?
We’re following the leader, the leader, the leader…
It’s not easy to be famous person, don’t you think? So many fans that are following every your activity, worshiping or judging, news reporters that are creating stories about you so that they can sell better their next issue of the magazine…
But, probably the worst are those crazy fans who literally want to follow you wherever you go. It’s kind of disturbing. Imagine, you’re in the shop, trying to simply by something usual such as bread, new toothbrush, and someone jumps out of nowhere screaming things like “OMG! I love you”, or “You use COLGATE?! Me too!!!” Dear God, it’s horrible. I remember a video from the previous Olympic games where a bunch of people were all over some poor guy who had to put out his pasport so that he can prove that he is NOT Michael Phelps. Of course, it is a funny video, but the guy was scared at the moment. It is good that restaurants still respect the privacy of their customers, for imagine if a restaurant manager would put a status on some social network whenever some popular person arrives. There would be blood.
So, my dear friends, if you dream to become famous person, I suggest you to start jogging 5 km each day, so that you can run away when it’s necessary.
Square vs circle
There is something on my mind right now and it won’t get away. Why is pizza in circle shape? Why not a square? Or, why is pizza in circle shape, while it’s box is in square shape?
For boxes I can say that it’s normal, for it’s a lot easier to transport, and also, it is cheaper to create square box. Also, there is no so much difference, because pizza can never reach other points of the box except for those in the middle of the pages. But, why is pizza in a circle shape? I’ve seen how pizza makers made it’s bread, but not so long ago I’ve eated a pizza that was in square shape. I haven’t paid attention back then, perhaps what pizza maker actually wanted to make was a pie? What was that? I mean, in a restaurant menu’s you never see options “circle pizza” or “square pizza”, it is circle by default.
Do you have any ideas? There are some forums were it’s members tried to give an answer to this question, but there is still nothing. I guess that it’s only because non of the pizza makers still haven’t showed up on those…
My own pizza
Oh, childhood… last night I’ve been watching “Turtles forever” movie. It reminded me of those happy days when all I needed to know about a life is that I have to listen to my parents because they know the best. I’m joking, of course, but in a way it is a truth. When you’re kid, it’s hardly to expect that you are able to understand some of the most tragic things that are going on in a world, because the grown ups wants to protect us from all the bad things.
I remember, when I was a little, because of the cartoon “TMNT”, my mother took me and my sister to a pizza restaurant. She allowed us to choose whatever we want. That’s when for the first time I had a trouble to get a pizza I want. You see, I don’t like ketchup. I like tomato sauce, homemade one, but I don’t like ketchup. Someone can think that I’m acting foolish, but I can feel the difference between the ketchup and a sauce.
Every time ever since that day I have to tell waiters to tell the chef not to put ketchup in my pizza, but very often, due to a misunderstanding or something else, there is a ketchup in my pizza. I don’t like to make a mess on such things, so I simply eat it up, but I must say that I can’t realy enjoy it. And yet again, for such situation, a restaurant menu software would be of a great use. Not to mention that perhaps some of the visitors have their own taste and wish for ingredients.
Concurention question
My parents were always telling me that concurention is good, for they are here to motivate us to be better. But, it seems that today most of people and companies just want to erase their concurention instead of making themselves better.
Here is the news offered to us by CNN: it seems that Proview Technology (Shenzhen) is as big a thorn in the Chinese government’s side as it is in Apple’s(AAPL). The nearly-bankrupt electronics manufacturer succeeded in getting a court in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong to ban the sale of iPads on the strength of Proview’s claim that although Apple in 2009 purchased what it thought were the worldwide rights to the iPad trademark from Proview International Holdings, the deal was invalid on mainland China because Proview (Shenzhen) was not represented. The National People’s Congress — which governs all of China, not just Guangdong province — has not commented on the provincial court’s ruling. But Apple continues to manufacturer iPads by the millions, many of them in Shenzhen, one of Guangdong’s largest cities.
Now, an iceland province, called Hainan, has a lot more complicated matters. You see, the province is visited by the tourists each year, and they do whatever they can to make working during the season easier to bare. One of the ways for them to have an easier work in the restaurants were iPads. So, China allowed use of the same thing they banned not so far away and not so long ago. If it stands against some laws of the country, shouldn’t they ban it anyway? Or if it’s fine with the laws of the country, why did they banned it in the first place somewhere else?
But the two sides are reported to be far apart, and Apple – one of China’s largest foreign manufacturers – shows no inclination to settle.Which makes Proview a thorn in everybody’s side.
Honestly, I don’t know now. Is there a law problem at all or what? Why would anyone ban some technology anyway? I mean, why if it doesn’t exist so that it can ruin someone’s life, but to improve it? World today, especially business world confuses me so…it is, as if business simply exists so that the devil can go to vacation. Isn’t that the same? For it’s the fact that if you wanna be on top of your business, you have to play a game in which you do not follow the rules. And sometimes, probably, you don’t even follow your own heart.
