Top Chef
We know what I talk about: speed, excitement and a good taste. All of them we can find in this show, that reveals new the best cook in America/Canada. I like watching it, because all of the people who become regular challengers have a chance to prove themselves even if they were never in culinary school, and they get the chance to be employed as a chefs in some good restaurants after their gift is discovered.
Of course, the best prize awaits the “Top Chef”, the one who shows how better he is than all the others. Prize money award is over 100000$! With so much money they can easily consider opening their own restaurants. It can completely change someone’s life. The question that remains for us is: where are they? How can we find them?
And that’s the moment we thank God for giving us all-mighty and all-knowing Google. All of these competitors can be easily found. I can’t imagine how it would be without it. Would some kind of detective be employed to follow these people around the world? Would we check-up each and every restaurant menu, carefully reading each word written in it so that we can see who is the chef in their kitchen…?
Diet time!
You’re on a work, faculty, or just waiting to finish some job. You’re hungry, so you decide to go to the nearest restaurant and take a meal. It is very easy to make a decisions when there are no borders, but what if…?
You’re on a diet, it is not important do you really need to be or not, simply you wish to take some low-calorie, low-fat meal. What to do in such a situation? In restaurant menus of the some fast food restaurants you can find the diet menu. But, is it really diet food you get that way? There’s been a controversy about a “diet food” in some fast food restaurants for it had actually a lot more calories and fat then what they represent. I don’t understand why would anyone lie to people like that, but a guess that some people would just do anything to make sure the growth of their business.
So, what can we do and to be sure we’re eating a healthy food? Here is my advice: simply eat a fruits and vegetables. I know, it is very hard to stand entire day with only this for a food, so avoid the fast food restaurants while on diet. I know, the food there is tasty, but it’s only normal that during the diet we choose to avoid some of the meals we like. You can, for example, go to some regular restaurant check up their restaurant menu, so if there is nothing that is quite settled with your diet, to ask a waiter is it possible for a chef to make some soup with vegetables, for those are healthy, and they give you a lot of energy and refreshment.
Refreshing designs
What do I talk about here? It’s all about food, restaurants, restaurant menu… Let’s forget about a taste, and concentrate on sight. We always like to see something beautiful, new, nice, clean…
It is the fact, while walking down the street, our view is alot more lovely if the streets are clean. It is very similar with the parks. Also, we wouldn’t like to see a dirty tablecloth in a restaurant we decided to take a meal. That’s the moment I wonder: what about a dirty restaurant menus? I mean, people touch them, with fingers that do not have guarancy to be very clean, so what when somebody leave a mark of his fingers? Does somebody clean it? How can you clean a paper? Do they order a new menus than? It is not very cheap. We can see that from the fact that designs of the restaurant menus are not very often changed. It is a shame, because as I already mentioned, we all like to see something new. Clothes in shops are changing all the time during the year. We change our mobile phones very often, we change the color of our hair, or at least, we see a lot of other people doing it all the time.
I don’t know, but unless the restaurants start using tablet restaurant menu applicaton, they should definitely do something like, changing at least a cover from time to time. I believe it to be a lot cheaper than changing a whole little book.
What apps do we want?
You know that moment when you buy a ticket in cinema and they give you the seats you don’t like? Of course, when there is a 500 people who all want some “the best seats”, it is hard to satisfy everyone. Wouldn’t it be easier for them to instal some tablets where the free seats would be showed. That way guests would choose the seats for themselves. Or if they don’t like any of free ones, to choose a seat for a later projection.
It is similar situation when buying a ticket for a bus. Why can’t we see all the free seats so that we can seat next to our friends, family… Or when 5 friends go to a vacation, why they can’t take the last 5 seats so that they can seat next to each other?
Also, why restaurants don’t have their restaurant menu applications, where we can see what meals they make? After all, there is a lot of people who because of some health problem can’t eat anything from some restaurant menus. Except salads, perhaps, but you can’t go with a friend with diabetes and eat something delicious while he/she eat salad. At least, I wouldn’t. I mean, I can’t enjoy something if my friends can’t enjoy it too.
2012th year
It’s 2012th year. Some say this will be the final year of our lives, and some say this will be the year of change and prosperity. Who knows what awaits us? Perhaps both? And, of course, perhaps just nothing new. But, really, have you thought of it?
Usually, I don’t like thinking about a future, I just wait for it to happen. I mean, so many things that are absolutely not in my power can change the path I decide to take, so it’s just a time-wasting. Of course, not completely, because with completely no plan in life I’d be lost.
But, right not, imagine that tomorrow is your final day of life. It doesn’t sounds very optimistic. But, in such a case, would you have a great time like you never had in your life, or would you just seat and cry until the end? Would you finally enter the karaoke contest, even though you are far from a good singer? Would you grab the girl/guy you consider for your “true love” and kissed her/him? Would you grab the restaurant menu and order something you never tasted? Especially if you have never tasted it because “you might be allergic, something bad might happen”? What would you do?
What would I do? Well, idea to eat something I never did before sounds interesting, restaurant menu app is full of many interesting meals. I’d probably haunt down my “true love”, even though I’m not sure who might it be. I’d try to enter a baby zoo and play with little animals. Then, I’d buy a light-saber and play with it with the other “Star Wars” fans. Then, I would, I would…
Well, thats the moment I would say “There will be tomorrow”, and I’ll continue with my usual life thinking how I had a great time. And also, I would start thinking: why the people spend their time thinking and predicting about some horrible future? Why is there destruction and doom in each and every movie about the future? Why are the aliens always the enemies? Is it so hard to believe will get a new friends, or something from some galaxy far, far away? Why we expect that they would came and kill us, instead of learning us how to improve our health, how to make our houses safer form the fires, floods, earthquakes…
I wonder what music would they bring to us? What meals would we found in their restaurant menu? What restaurant menu would they have, anyway? Some kind of restaurant tablet software, would it be? I guess they would use something like that, unless if they developed mind reading so that they don’t need such communication. Would that restaurant menu app be designed for creatures that use three of five fingers, or for something that is not an arm, at all? Would it be possible that over that restaurant menu application you order a band to play the music you want? What are the possibilities…?
And, you see, my dear friends, so many beautiful thing are awaiting to be discovered. I’m sure that the future will be bright, so do not fear the fact that it’s the 2012th year.
Taste of Belarus
“I love Belarus, got it deep inside
I love Belarus, feel it in my mind
And I wanna see the sun shining from above
You will always be the one, I can’t get enough…”
Oh, I remember that song that represented Belarus on Eurovision 2011. It sounded nice and it was very patriotic which was a very brave step to take on such contest. Because, it’s hard to expect from whole Europe to have the same feel for one country. Everyone love their own, which is normal. Anyway, I don’t care if it didn’t won that year, I still love it.
But, we here talk about food, once more. Belarusian music is good, what about their cuisine?
Belarusian cuisine basis on a variety ogf meat and vegetables typical for the region. Expected or not, Belarusian cuisine is actualy very exotic one. Aside from its predominantly Ruthenian roots, Belarusian cuisine is very close to Lithuanian and Polish. Modern Belarusian cuisine is still heavily influenced by its recent Soviet past, and many local restaurants feature Russian or Soviet dishes rather than true specialties of local cuisine. However, draniki (both plain and stuffed), boršč, haladnik, mačanka, zrazy, cold meat rolls, eggs stuffed with mushrooms, halubtsy, fried raw pork sausage and bliny are likely to be found everywhere, as well as sour rye bread.
Taste of Romania
Romania… I’m sure that each of us has one special association when think of this country. Vampires. Magic. Castles. Dark woods. But, here we are not interested in such matters, because all we are affraid of is lack of spices. And it has nothing to do with the blood-drinking demons.
Romanian cuisine has been greatly influenced by it’s neighbours(Germans, Srebians and Hungarians) and Ottoman cuisine. Many different types of cheese are made in Romania. Cheese is made there since Ancient history. For 76 years Romania was under Ottoman Empire, and during that time Turkish cuisine changed Romanian food. Specialy, there were changes in deserts, they started combining honey and nuts in cookies such as baklava, halva and rahat.
Pork and beef are mostly used meats in Romania, but good lamb is never refused also. It is a tradition that before Christmass a pig is cut up by every rural family.
Taste of Denmark
Here we are with one more european kingdom. Even thought I usualy like to talk about kings, queens, castles and all, here we are because of one and only topic we have on this site. I’m sure you know what it is.
Danish cuisine started as a peasant population’s own local product. Cooking techniques become more developed after the Industrial Revolution, when it become easier to came to new spices and other goods. The open sandwiches, which in their basic form are the usual fare for lunch, can be considered a national speciality when prepared and decorated with a variety of fine ingredients.
Carlsberg and Tuborg are the most known Danish beverages. This is also very interesing information: In both 2010 and 2011 the Copenhagen restaurant Noma (short for nordisk mad – Nordic food) was named the world’s best restaurant by the Restaurant magazine.
Taste of Turkey
No, it’s not about Thanksgiving day, and it’s not about a bird. It’s about an Eurasian country. It is a country surrounded by a few seas which makes it a perfect location for vacations.
Tukish cuisine is largely the heritage of Ottoman cuisine, which was under a lot of influences of Central Asian, Middle Eastern and Balkan cuisines. Wars and immigration made such mix in a national cuisines in this area, that for some meals is not known for sure who developed it first. As far as I’m considered, it doesn’t matter, as long as food is tasty.
Each meal is important, so for the breakfast, it is not unusual to eat a soup, but mostly are eaten cheese, butter, olives, eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, jam, honey, and kaymak.
During the summer, it is a very, very hot in Turkey, so at this time of year, vegetables are mostly consumed.
Although fast food is gaining popularity and many major foreign fast food chains have opened all over Turkey, Turkish people still rely primarily on the rich and extensive dishes of the Turkish cuisine.
Taste of the sea
“Under the sea, under the sea…” Lovely song from a lovely movie. “The little mermaid” is one of the main reasons I wasn’t interested in a seafood for a long time. But, I came back to it from time to time now, for it’s very healthy. And tasty, of course.
Seafood includes any form of food taken from the sea. Seafood is often distinguished from meat, although it is still animal and is excluded in a strict vegetarian diet. It is said that seafood is “food for the brain”. Also, it is a good heart keeper, for it’s noticed that fish-eating Inuit populations in the Arctic had low levels of heart disease.
Fish is eaten in many forms, grilled or in a soup. Crabs are also very popular. Probably the most well-known meal is caviar, food made of fish eggs.
